It is understandable that Penington is here troubled by those who would use the testimony of the sufficiency and completeness of the presence of the spirit of Christ in the conscience as teacher to deny or oppose ministry or church government. However, the act or experience of coming out of being guided by the ministry or church government through the appearance of the inshining spirit of Christ is not different than using the testimony do oppose church government and those who are supported by such help.

ReplyDeletePenington here clearly affirms the sufficiency of the Anointing Within. Although he does not see this sufficiency as an overthrow of outward Helps or instrumentalities. The important thing is that he affirms the sufficiency of the inshining Light is the conscience to guide, rule, and teach.
